The Wild Rhinos continued their winning ways with a rain shortened game during the Bittner Tourney, way to go WILD RHINOS.
The Wild Rhino`s had another great game! The girls were definitely on their fielding game in this one. Josie VanZante started the game off by catching a pop fly at third and then later in the game she covered first base from right field for two more outs. Sarah Wachal did a great job fielding as well recording an out by throwing to Jessica Doss at second base, another two to Josie at first and then fielding one on her own and touching first for a force out. Carley Deery fielded a ground ball in left and was able to get it to Jessica at second for an out. Emma Jiroutek caught a fly ball as well as had a force out at second base. Maren Judisch, playing second base, caught a fly ball to record the first out of the second inning. All of the girls did a great job hitting the ball with Meredith Hoffman, Emma DeKrueyf and Sami Snider getting multiple hits in the winning effort.
The Wild Rhino`s are still going strong! There were a bunch of great plays in the field during this game with Sarah Wachal and Meredith Hoffman teaming up for all three outs at first base to start of the game. Meredith had a solo out at first followed by Sarah with a solo out at first and then Sarah fielding a ground ball and throwing to Meredith for the final out. First base was the place to be in this game. Emma Dekrueyf threw a runner out at first as did Sami Snider. Maren Judisch recorded an out at first while Emma Jiroutek had two.

SWARM WINS!!! Great job by the Swarm in game two against East Des Moines` team # 2, they came out on fire with Amber Irlbeck laying down a perfect bunt, stealing second and then eventually scoring the game-winning run in the first inning. A much better effort at the plate by the whole team in this game, Asia Underwood and Emily Twist each hit doubles with Emily getting an RBI out of the effort. Reaching base twice was Gabby Schnathorst, reaching base once was Irlbeck, Twist, Underwood and Joanna Wachal. All the girls made great efforts at the plate against a very tough pitcher. Defensively the Swarm was led by Gabby Schnathorst throwing a 1-hitter but she had plenty of help behind her with the defense shutting down anything that was hit and only allowing two baserunners the whole 7-inning game. Great job girls!
Even after much discussion about the rules, and still not sure we were 100% correct, it was an EXCELLENT first game for the Hornets!! When up to bat in the first, the Hornets put 3 runs on the board, but no hits. The bottom of the inning had McKenzie Wright (Big Mac!)on the mound for 9 batters. Mac struck out one and only gave up one hit. Emma Parson caught a pop up for the first out of the inning and Molly LeClair had a great stop and tag at first base to end the inning. In the next at bat, The Hornets had hits from Parson, Mac and Daphne Hayes (Krash). 5 runs were scored to end the top of the 2nd. LeClair took the mound for the 2nd inning and accounted for all 3 outs with 2 strike outs and one caught pop up. She did allow one run and 4 hits. In the 3rd, the Hornets saw hits from Parson, Mac and Krash again, scoring 2 more runs. LeClair kept the mound for the third and after 3 strike outs in a row, she claimed the first win of the season!! Way to Go Ladies!!! The entire team worked hard and kept their eyes on the ball and base runners. Krash did an excellent job catching for both pitchers and rarely let a pitch get past her. Samantha Blanchard is on the DL with a broken wrist...we hope to have her back on the field in a couple weeks.
The Chili Peppers led the first three innings but lost in the bottom of the fourth. Katelyn Hockett faced 25 batters, striking out 6 and walking 8. The Swarm came up a little short in the first game of the year by losing to East Des Moines` #3 team 2 to 1 in a pitching duel. Offensively, a no-hitter was thrown against us but reaching base twice was Alexis Wyckoff and Joanna Wachal, reaching base one time each was Marissa Reed and Gabby Schnathorst with Gabby scoring the Swarm`s only run. Defensively, catcher Regan Wyckoff hustled to toss a ball from the backstop to Gabby Schnathorst covering home plate for a very exciting out at home. Gabbby Schnathorst pitched a no-hitter with 11 strike outs in the loss. Great effort by the girls in the first game of the year.!.
